AI is taking over... or is it?
There is an aesthetic in AI art that I enjoy, perhaps a guilty pleasure about it, but the mix of this kind of stylized character art (below) mixed with a hyper sense of realism that would be horribly inefficient to produce without AI as it is. It's difficult to control outside of AI generation, and impossible to animate at this time, but I do think it has the potential to inspire art in-itself. I think the realm of 3D NPR (Non Photo Realistic) renders could do lighting and shaders like this justice someday, and could actually be animated in film. Maybe... We'll see. The hair shaders would be incredibly hard though, especially in motion.
Lip sync animation
This is a lip sync exercise that animation students do. The purpose is to take existing dialog audio and animate over it. I was working on my own character rigging this afternoon when I got the urge to animate something, so I chose this character since I was already learning AdvancedSkeleton5. Might as well get used to its controls. Plus, this dialog with Lapis is just amazing.
Model: Penelope Maya Rig
Audio: Jennifer Paz as Lapis Lazuli (from Steven Universe)
Character model: Alexandre Corbini
Character design: Priscilla Galindo
Rigged with AdvancedSkeleton
Animated by me, for giggles.
*Critiques are welcome, but not the purpose of this.
Tik Tok and Hipocracy
I’m a card-carrying liberal tree hugger, but I still find it amazingly ironic that liberals are losing their shit because Tik Tok is censoring any political or social justice post. Duh, no shit, they want to be the “happy dance with song” app going down that path just makes them into Facebook or Tumblr. Not that censorship ever ends well anyway. Tik Tok has always been a fad and I always expected them to fold in on themselves before long anyway, but still... I didn’t expect it to happen quite this fast.
Plus, they’re a Chinese-owned company, and I’m pretty sure the Chinese Gov isn’t going to let th
Salmon Ladder for Precision Easel Painting
Hey everyone. I’ve been drowning in work lately, but trying to get back into the studio. As some of you know I broke my shoulder a couple years ago and it frequently gets in my way. If I paint on an easel for more than 10 minutes my fingers go numb. It’s been a huge obstacle for my getting back into painting. I bought an acrylic device on Amazon called a “Leaning Bridge” that has been very helpful for flat artwork, but for upright work those Mahl sticks just don’t cut it for me. So today... I built a salmon ladder for my paintings. Yep, just like that thing that Stephen Amell uses in The Arrow, just without his abs. 😂 I attached a right angle to the top of two square rods I bought in the hardware section at Meijer, as a way to hang them, and on the other side, placed push pins every 3 inches to give me places to rest a round dowel rod. I'm already finding that this works amazing for detail and brushwork support. I love it so far, and I'm looking forward to painting with
