Photographer vs illustrator?

So... am I a photographer or an illustrator? This bothers me because if I had the choice I'd go with illustrator. I love to draw, but I just don't have the time for it anymore. Photography is fun, and I love it, but it's so expensive to be a hobby with $10K worth of gear. (and I don't haver the time to make it a profession either.)

I wish I had more free time.

John and (some) gear.

This is my macro setup for hand-hunting bees and other small mobile critters. I use a tripod and remote trigger for slower bugs, and a completely different lens setup for birds.

Canon EOS 7D camera with battery grip and wrist strap.
EF 180mm f/3.5L USM Macro lens
MT-24EX Macro "Twin Lite" (the flash mounted on the lens) with external battery pack for quick flash recycle.

My wife Nicole took the shot with her camera. This might as well be my new bionic arm, it's practically attached to me at all times.
